UrduThis course provides an overview of sexual violence and what it means, some of the key national statistics, prevalence, myths and stereotypes, legal and media representations, and barriers to reporting. It will examine the physical and emotional impact on victims and survivors, explore ways to handle disclosures and reinforce the importance of a trauma-informed approach.
The training is ideal for anyone who already has a basic knowledge of trauma through their field of work and may come into contact with people who have been subjected to sexual violence and abuse or harassment. This can include healthcare professionals, social workers, benefit, welfare and housing staff, youth workers, education staff, therapists and counsellors, legal and court staff, police officers, voluntary sector workers, prison service staff.
What will I learn
The training is an engaging and interactive opportunity to learn from frontline experts on the prevalence and realities of sexual violence in society today. By the end of the course, you will:
- Understand the definition of sexual violence, types of sexual violence and child sexual abuse.
- Be aware of the prevalence of sexual violence and abuse
- Be able to dispel the myths and misinformation around sexual violence.
- Understand how sexist and misogynistic behaviour feeds into rape culture
- Understand the reporting processes and criminal justice system for those subjected to sexual violence and abuse.
- Know the common impacts of sexual violence.
